Ecumenical Good Friday Service to be Held at Blackstone Valley United Methodist Church on April 22, 2011

April 12, 2011

The Northbridge Association of Churches Ecumenical Good Friday Service, Musical Meditations, will be held from 12:00 Noon to 3:00 PM at the Blackstone Valley United Methodist Church at 61 Linwood Avenue, Whitinsville, Massachusetts 01588.  Parking is available in the parking lot behind the church or on Linwood Avenue.  All are invited to attend.

Our Good Friday Ecumenical service this year is based on the Stations of The Cross – A devotion that was developed in the Middle Ages by the Franciscans as a way of allowing people who could not travel to the Holy Land to walk where Christ had walked on the day of his passion.  By the end of the 17th century many churches had stations, or stops, arranged at intervals along their walls – each with a cross and under that cross a representation of an event in the passion narrative.

The Good Friday Musical Meditations is a way for us to walk where Christ walked on the day of his passion.  Each reading reminds us of different moments of Christ’s passion journey and encourages reflection and contemplation.  After each Scripture reading, there will be music, a hymn or a Litany, which will be followed by a time of silence.  It is our hope that you will relax – and enter into the experience of Christ’s passion and that you may know the meaning of what our Lord has done for us.  You may come and go as you wish.
